Family Visitation Services
Indiana MENTOR strives to keep biological parents and their children together. Our family visitation services help to facilitate positive experiences between parents and children who are unable to live together. We assist parents in coordinating structured visits where they interact with their children in a positive atmosphere while continuing to strengthen their coping, communication and other parenting skills.
The services are designed to promote children’s safety and well-being by reestablishing familial connections in a safe and structured environment. We focus on restoring the children’s emotional health and sense of security, and ensuring a smooth transition for children returning to their natural homes.
Keeping Families Together
Each family will be assigned a visitation coordinator (VC) who will assist the family by teaching and demonstrating appropriate parenting skills. All services provided by the VC will be dictated by the family’s unique visitation plan, which is tailored to suit each family’s particular strengths and needs.
We provide a positive setting where siblings can be involved, as well. Visits take place in neutral locations, such as:
- Parks
- Playgrounds
- Program offices
- The natural home
- Other locations (deemed appropriate by the Department of Child Services).
