Vocational Rehabilitation
Indiana MENTOR helps adults with disabilities pursue meaningful employment by providing support in finding and applying for the job of their choice. We start the process by getting to know each person and learning about their skills, interests, job history, and job preferences. If they are interested in a particular field or position, we assess whether it would be a good fit for them based on their skills and any special needs they have.
Job Development
Once an individual has chosen their field of interest, we then network with employers to identify potential leads. Our staff teach job seekers how to contact potential employers and train them on the importance of making a positive impression. Depending on the unique needs of each individual, staff may assist with the following:
- Finding job leads
- Using computers, the Internet and job search engines
- Creating resumes and cover letters
- Completing job applications
- Preparing for interviews
- Providing transportation to interviews
- Following up with potential employers
Once an individual has found employment, we can also help them transition successfully into their new position. Staff provide support on the job site and help them develop skills specific to their new responsibilities. Our goal is to help the individuals we serve succeed in a position that matches their interests and skills.
